About Cool Water Tie Dyes

Hi, I'm Stephanie McKnight, the artist and owner behind Cool Water Tie Dyes.

What started as a creative escape grew into a passion that's now woven into every piece I make. Since opening Cool Water Tie Dyes in 2022, I've been creating hand-dyed clothing and tapestries inspired by music, nature, and the incredible community I've found at festivals across the country. Long before I officially started my business, I spent years learning, experimenting, and falling in love with the art of tie-dye.

With a background in Photography and Color Theory, I see every blank garment as a canvas waiting to tell its own story. I carefully fold, dye, and ice each piece by hand, allowing the colors to blend naturally into designs that can never be duplicated. That's the beauty of handmade art—every creation is truly one of a kind, just like the person who wears it.

Everything is created by hand in my North Carolina studio using high-quality garments made from natural fibers and professional fiber-reactive dyes that produce rich, vibrant colors made to last. From T-shirts and sweatshirts to dresses, tapestries, and accessories, every item is dyed by me with patience, intention, and a whole lot of heart.

Music has always been part of my creative process. Whether it's bluegrass playing in the studio, the energy of a jam band, or the friendships I've made at festivals, those experiences inspire every piece I create. My hope is that when you wear something from Cool Water Tie Dyes, it reminds you of your favorite show, a weekend in the mountains, dancing under the stars, or simply the freedom to be yourself.
